A cappuccino, cozy cafe and a wireless Internet connection ... does it get any better? OK, maybe chatting with your hubby or girlfriend would make it ultra perfect! But wait ... I'd like to introduce you to an even better idea! How about that cappuccino, cozy prayer closet and God's Wi-Fi? Yes! God is the Author of wireless technology ... and it's called prayer! Are you connected? Hooked up to Him? Let's get on our knees, please!
How would you describe the last email (or shall we say "p-mail"?) you sent to God's Throne. Are you sending Him instant messages throughout the day? You should! Let's talk about it.
I'm sitting in a hotel in Jerusalem as I write this article, just about to hook up to a wireless network where I'll log in with a user name and password and send emails around the world—it's amazing!
This "wireless" prayer process is just as simple. When we employ the authorized user name (the Name above all names!) "Jesus" ... And when we input the proper password ("It is written" ... ) "The Word of God," our hearts log in to the Father and we are connected. Jesus gave us this hook-up information, "... You will no longer ask me anything. I tell you the truth, my Father will give you whatever you ask in My name. Until now you have not asked for anything in My name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete." (John 16:23-24, NIV) We send God p-mail and He promises to download answers! "Call to me and I will answer you. I'll tell you marvelous and wondrous things that you could never figure out on your own." (Jeremiah 33:3, The Message)
Think about it ... when you check your email, do you enjoy hearing those three little words-"You've Got Mail"? I wonder if God would like to hear those words. The whole God Wi-Fi-thing is an invisible reality. We can't see or feel it, but by faith we activate this unseen truth and something supernatural happens!
Prayer is supposed to be a heartfelt adventure with God, but for many Christians it's a drag. God's mailbox has no record of their email and they only send instant messages in times of crisis. Prayer has become an SOS. A duty. A ritual. A bore. A frustration. How about you? Does the idea of hitting your knees and clicking into God's power thrill you? I've found that many people lack a dynamic prayer life and internal motivation because they really don't know the benefits of prayer. Here are two benefits ...
On Your Knees You Connect With God's Presence
There's this itch, this restlessness in our spirits that nothing on earth can satisfy! We try to scratch that thing with relationships, music, stuff, accomplishments, food, activities, church and hobbies, but the itch is still there. If your heart is restless be encouraged, God wants to scratch your itch with satisfaction that comes from connecting with Him. Think about it, if we saturate and marinate in God's Presence; we begin to smell, taste, look, act and sound like Him.
I love the passage in Acts 4:13, "When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus." (NIV) It's a fact, hooking up with Him on your knees is noticeable!
On Your Knees God Downloads Real Results
The other big reason to pray is to get results. It's true! James 5:16 (AMP) says, "The earnest (heartfelt, continued) prayer of a righteous man makes tremendous power available [dynamic in its working]."
If we want God to show up big, we need to pray! Through prayer, we actually cooperate with God and give Him the legal right to download His will on earth! Our prayers put God's power on deposit!
Are you ready to hit your knees and spend some time connecting with God? Ready to send Him some heartfelt p-mail and instant messages? Perhaps, your thinking, "Great, I'm ready to log in with God ... but what do I say?" In the next issue, we'll look at six secrets Jesus gave us for uploading our hearts in the time we spend on our knees!
