A Joyful Girl
January 20, 2008
A Joyful GirlSo … life is always interesting isn’t it? I followed my daughter into the restroom at McDonald's. As we left the stalls to wash our hands, I saw a man washing his hands in our bathroom! I looked at him, and like a good mother I shook my finger and gave him a scolding, "What are you doing in here?"

He looked at us with the deer-in-headlights look. As my daughter and I moved toward the door to leave, another man walked in. I was getting ready to scold him too, when it hit me! I said to my daughter, "What are WE doing in here?"

Sure enough, when I looked at the sign on the door, it said, "Men's Room." My daughter and I ran out of the men's room, mortified, humiliated, and laughing hysterically. We couldn't believe what we had done.

My daughter and I still laugh about "the man at the urinal who freaked!" So … what do you have to laugh about? How's your joy quotient? When was the last time you enjoyed a good howl with your husband, kids, and friends? Do they see you as the laughing, joyful person? Are you the boring, predictable, dull, dutiful mom? Are you the nagging, "PMSing-menopausal," stressed out, raving maniac? C'mon get happy sista-girl … life is too short to be serious all the time.

4 Ideas For Being A Joyful Girl

Do Unto Others: When you go out to eat dinner with friends or as a family, you be the first one to stick a French fry up your nose! When you’re shopping with your kids and in “their” stores, be sure to have a hissy-fit, whine and scream loudly. When you have attracted enough attention, do it again! See how much fun you’re having?

  1. Midnight Madness: Wake the kids up at midnight and watch a family movie together in the middle of the night, or take them to breakfast in their pj’s.

  2. Shock and Awe: What are your kids convinced that "mother will never do"? Well, do it! Show 'em you've got some gumption and break out of your comfort zone.

  3. Mystery Trip: A mystery trip is just that … a unique, creative date that includes a few unexpected pit stops for fun, food, and entertainment. A trip to South Haven, a night at the races, glow bowling, buying a turtle, eating dinner without silverware … get the idea?

  4. Name People: This is great fun in the airport or mall. As people walk by try to guess what their name is. You will crack up.

Ok, admit it. These things are making your smile, right? No more boring, predictable, dull days for you!

Keep laughing …

Beth

I vvonder hovv many of us have done the very exact thing and keep it quiet. God never said life had to be dull and stuffy. God has the best sence of humor of all. Think of some of the situations that can bring us out of a slump. My oldest son Kristopher loves vvhen I say something totally meaning it one vvay and it is interperated in a different vvay and he says, mom I love you, do you have any idea vvhat you just said. Then he lets me knovv hovv silly it sounded and vve laught and laugh til

That is hysterical (probably because I have done the SAME thing)! As my kids get older I'm finding that I really do need to lighten up. How many times have I told my kids "That's not funny!", when in reality it WAS really funny and I should have laughed. So, here's to laughing so hard that milk shoots out your nose! Here's to laughing so hard you actually pee your pants. And here's to lauging so hard that it becomes contagiuos!

I used to say to my kids when they were living at home, "When you have kids, I won't have to be responsible for them. I can do things for them that I can't do for you." Here are some things I've done for my 'grands' (thank GOD, HE forgives): 1. I give them glitter, colored paper, and hole-punchers to "make things" pretty! At home and away! :O) 2. I give them M&Ms in individual packages just as they are leaving my driveway to eat on the freeway going home. 3. I don't
